why some young learners cannot read

The Vote Results about reading problems (why some young learners cannot read?)

All basic schools have long recognized that reading development requires at least reading with fluency and comprehension. Thus, I decided to make a survey with 24 teachers in our school.

Findings:
An analysis of the vote about reading revealed that 16.67% of teachers indicated the problem to Phonological processing which many poor readers have a specific weakness in phonics. 4.17% of teachers indicated on less of attention during the lesson. 8.33% of teachers indicated on learning environment which required time and full of resources to develop reading and if we have this environment such as learning resource centre, to what extant children can use all these resources and gain a wide knowledge through reading stories to improve this skill. 12.5% of teachers indicated on the lack of self-confidence and this depends on child’s personality such as shyness, and other factors which can teacher recognize during the lesson. The last reason shows that 58.33% of teachers indicated on Parents’ role to build good personality traits and when the parents encourage their child to love reading from an early age.
We found that the higher present was 58.33% which shows how the parents’ role is significant to support their children to read from the beginning because reading to a child improves her\his confidence and eagerness to read well. Comprehension and retention improves through hearing stories read aloud so this can generate interaction and discussion afterwards.

Teachers Opinions:
A-    Some parents see that the classroom environment involves the different resources to help learners to read such as activities without need to support their child.
B-    Some parents see that the teacher’s role is to be the teacher who develops reading and the follower in the same time
C-    Some parents are focusing on some specific subjects ignoring other subjects.
D-    Some students need more encouragement to learn more and they need his\her parents to follow his\her learning progress with teacher to improve his\her level
E-     Some parents’ need to have the strong belief about the importance of reading as a vital skill to be developed which will help the child to think and expand his knowledge in a flexible way so their child will have the same impact about reading

Reading tips for parents:
So here are reading tips for parents to support their children to read and develop their ability to read:
1-      Find the right time to read and to sit with the child.
2-      Choose the books which are appropriate to the child’s age and can create the surrounded interests.
3-      Give them multiple choices to discover their interests in different books or stories and which will build the good and useful discussions from the beginning
4-      Use the technology in language learning.
5-      Create imagination through reading because the imagination is one of element of knowledge to discover, think and produce.
